1947

►January 8th. First screening of the movie „Todesmühlen” („Death Mills”) in Bavaria, Hesse, Hamburg and Berlin (West). The movie was supposed to be educational and was used to confront society with the scale and cruelty of German crimes committed during the war. The movie is composed mainly of documentary footage filmed during the liberation of concentration camps and death camps. It's 22 minutes long. „Todesmühlen" shows the situation the Allies found in the camps shortly after the liberation, the survivors, living conditions inside the camps and the mass murder evidence. It also documents the use of prisoners for forced labor. The documentary footage from death camps is interspersed with fragments of a movie called "Triumph of the Will" by Lena Riefenstahl where joyful German population is marching in columns, saluting and yelling "Heil Hitler". The film ends with a scene showing men with shovels and crosses dragging over 1000 burned bodies. The victims were killed in barn in Gardelegen during the death march. Americans got to Gardelegen 24 hours after the massacre and they forced the citizens of Gardelegen to bury the victims in individual graves to let them have a decent burial. The main person responsible for mass murder in Gardelegen  was Gerhard Thiele. He was never caught. He only got exposed after his death in 1994 in Dusseldorf where he lived as a pensioner under a false identity.

► February 28th. John J.McCloy - later the High Commissioner for Germany - is appointed the World Bank president (look year 1946).
During the World War II John J. McCloy was the Secretary of War assistant and had a final say in setting the American army priorities. It's "thanks" to McCloy that the roads leading to the concentration camp in Auschwitz were never bombed in order to stop transports with new prisoners. He believed that such action would be dangerous for American bombers attacking an area packed with anti-aircraft weapons. In reality it was just the opposite. American bombers expeditions starting from Italian Foggia often passed Auschwitz camp on their way undisturbed by Germans. When the request was repeated for bombing of just the crematoria within the camp McCloy intervened once again, this time claiming that it would be too dangerous for the prisoners.
Afterwards as High Commissioner for Germany John J. McCloy distinguished himself in providing help to former Nazis fleeing justice.

►Reinhardt Mohn a declared Nazi, the former lieutenant in Erwin Romml Afrika Korps, is resuming the work of the Carl Bertelsmann Verlag Publishing which was the biggest Wehrmacht propaganda publisher during the World War II. Both Reinhardt Mohn and his father Heinrich Mohn - previous owner of the company were the SS members. Today Bertelsmann AG Publisher is the sixth biggest media conglomerate in the world.
►November 15th. Paris based English journal "Herald Tribune" publishes fragments of correspondence between a representative of the pharmaceutical company Bayer (part of IG Farben) with a commandant from the Auschwitz concentration camp.
The correspondence shows that IG Farben plant has bought 150 prisoners. However before the transaction was finalized the buyer complained about the “exorbitant” price.

Because we plan to experiment with new anesthetic we would appreciate if you could send us a number of women. We have received your message but we think that the price of 200 marks is too high, we cannot pay more than 170 marks per head. If this offer is acceptable we will purchase the women. We need about 150 of them. We accept the offer. Please prepare 150 women for us in the best possible condition. Whenever you inform us they are ready we pick them up immediately. We have received the transport of 150 women. Even though they are emaciated we confirm that their condition is adequate. We will inform you about the process of the experiment. Trials were conducted. All patients died. We will contact you soon about another delivery. (Selected pieces of correspondence that translator Gregoire M. Afrine cited during the trial).

►December 24th. SS Supervisor Maria Mendel the director of women's camp in Auschwitz II-Birkenau an exceptionally cruel war criminal carrying a well deserved nickname "The Beast" is writing to the Polish President Bolesław Bierut a request for... a pardon.
"The Beast" had personally signed orders to send around 500 thousand women and children to death in gas chambers. By her orders infants and few months old children were drowned and burned alive. Maria Mandel has ordered to throw newly born children outside where rats ate tchem or they died from starvation. There are known cases where by her command infants were drowned in a bucket with faeces. Favorite activity of "The Beast" was to abuse and beat prisoners. She would torture a mentally ill prisoner until her death. Mendel personally assigned women and children to pseudo medical experiments conducted by the SS "doctors". She cruelly persecuted pregnant women and sent them to death by Phenol injection carried out by a pseudo-doctor.
In her request for a pardon Maria Mendel didn't admit to a single act of crime. This monster-woman had clear consciousness. She truly hoped for the Polish President understanding and mercy. In her testimony she said that if she could be reborn she would do the same thing again.
